The short and long sound of the vowel “A” using rhyming words.

Other sounds relating to the letter “A”

“A” as a short vowel sound.

“A” as a long vowel sound with the use of:

1.     A---e

2.     Ai

Use words to distinguish between the two sounds of “A”. Give rules on how to make the short sound into a long sound.

Start with the “A” family.

Rhyming words using the CVC formula using the short vowel sound.

Changing short vowel words to form long vowel sound words with the rule.

Do the exercises 

Tongue twister to differentiate between the two sounds.

“E” as a short vowel sound.

The ball and circle game. Ss are put in a circle. When they get the ball they shout a owrd having the target sound. .

Start with the “O” family.

The difference between “Y” as a consonant and as a vowel.

“Y” as the long “I”

“Y” as the long “E”

“Y” as the long “A”

Use words to show how “Y” can be a consonant. Now show how it can be a vowel having the long vowel sound like other vowels.

Introduce the letter “Y” as a consonant.

Show how “Y” can sound like the long “I”, “E”, and “A” with the use of words.
